We designed ArtAncient's stand at TEFAF Maastricht; this year, the exhibition centred around an ancient Roman topological map, the Tabula Peutingeriana. Objects were placed within niches along an imagined route from Britain to Mesopotamia along the Roman road network.

Our goal was to make every single object on the stand look important; we achieved this by sub-dividing the stand into niches, where each object had its own space to be viewed and appreciated. Each architectural element incorporated a series of shadow gaps to lighten the construction and to make for an interesting aesthetic. The niches also served to obscure many of the objects from the outside of the stand, encouraging people to enter the stand and discover the objects.
